Wow! Can the day be any more gorgeous? The beauty of the morning sun ascending along the horizon is reason enough to pack on the layers and venture outdoors to explore my new surroundings. My favorite spot to hang out first thing in the morning is the neighborhood park. It’s the perfect picture postcard setting. All that’s missing is a cup of coffee and a camera.
Speaking of layering, I am quickly discovering that my So. Cal wardrobe is no match for these Midwestern winters. The winter chills and blustery winds are no joke! And with today’s temps barely peaking at 13 degrees, I’m definitely taking advantage of the opportunity to perfect the art of layering. It is a skill few master, and many regret.
It’s all about the layers.
Here in the Midwest, it really is possible to experience all four seasons in one day – which is why layering is so important. As a Midwesterner, you quickly master the art of layering out of necessity.
You start with a tank top, layer with a long sleeved shirt, top with a bold flannel, and finish with a coat of some sort. HOWEVER, by the day’s end, you may find that you only need a tank top and flannel. That’s how bizarre the weather is in the Midwest. They have a saying here, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.”
And if it’s the layered look you’re after, flannel shirts are the one item worth coveting. You’ll love ’em for their versatility. Appreciate them for their comfort. And be thankful for their warmth.
What’s your favorite way to wear a flannel?
